A client portal needs one clear job before it needs more features
Client portals work best when they make a specific interaction easier, clearer or more dependable for both the client and the team.
A portal can become an expensive copy of an internal system if its purpose is not clear. The best starting point is usually a single client task: submit an application, check a status, upload a document, manage a request or view a meaningful record.
Once that job is clear, the team can decide what information must be shown, what must remain protected, where it connects to existing systems and how a person gets help when something goes wrong.
A focused first release creates a dependable client experience and gives the organisation a safe foundation for the next service improvement.
